Alhamdulillah, we’re incredibly proud to share with you that our “Breaking the Silence: Muslim Suicide Prevention” video—along with the Miami Herald feature highlighting this work—was recognized at the national level, receiving an Honorable Mention for Excellence in Video / Short Reports from the Religious News Association.
This past weekend, the project was also honored with an Award of Excellence at the 2026 Wilbur Awards, presented by the Religion Communicators Council—one of the most respected recognitions in media for excellence in communicating faith, values, and the human experience. Our team accepted the award in Atlanta, Georgia, during the council’s 77th Annual Conference, alongside many attendees and participants.
This recognition means so much because it reflects the importance of breaking stigma, uplifting conversations around mental health, and serving our communities with compassion, honesty, and care. We are deeply grateful to the Fetzer Institute, the Miami Herald, Linda Freund, Francisco Pareja, Lauren Costantino, Mostafa Taleb, José Angel Guevara, and all our partners, contributors, and supporters who made this possible—and to everyone continuing this vital work every day.
Alhamdulillah, we are incredibly grateful to share the success of our first-ever Youth Mental Health First Aid Certification Training this past Saturday!🎉
We had a full house, bringing together dedicated teachers and staff from 5 Islamic schools across all three counties in South Florida. The feedback has been overwhelming. Many participants shared how impactful, practical, and much-needed this training was for supporting our youth.
A heartfelt thank you to our outstanding instructors, Dr. Ali Syed and Sister Aisha Malik from Khair Collective, for delivering such a meaningful, engaging, and transformative experience.
We are deeply appreciative to Nurul Islam Center for graciously hosting us and for their continued support, and to our generous donors, and our sponsor, Zakat Foundation, for helping make this initiative possible.

With incredible turnout across all three counties and online, we’re proud to share this exclusive documentary about our community’s journey and the role of South Florida Muslim federation —recently featured by the Fetzer Institute in Spain—highlighting the amazing work being done by our community.

We were honored to attend the National Addiction Solutions Summit VIP Reception on Tuesday evening and the full-day summit on Wednesday. It was incredibly beneficial to learn about the alarming statistics of drug overdoses in South Florida—with 40-50 deaths per month in Broward County alone—and to explore the resources available to help.
